Court reporters can also provide
Court reporters can also provide a real service to the disability community by providing close captioning to the hearing-impaired. In short, the legal system would not be able to function efficiently if it werent for conscientious court reporters.
Interestingly enough, less than 30 percent of court reporters in the U.S. work in courtrooms. The remainder are hired by lawyers to record the depositions of witnesses before trials. Therefore, there is more variety to the job than you might have thought.
Training for court reporting involves completing an associates or bachelors degree program which can run for two to four years. In the course of this training, youll learn legal terms, criminal procedures, and transcription techniques. Most employers also require certification to ensure that their court reporters are highly proficient. In some states, court reporters must also be authorized notary publics. A court reporter can also earn the title registered professional reporter by passing a rigorous exam and undergoing continuing education programs offered by the National Court Reporters Association.
To be an effective court reporter you have to be detail-oriented and possess excellent concentration skills.

Of course as a business
Of course as a business person one cannot be a lifer student, as there are too many things to do, produce and idea or concepts to see to fruition you see? But alas there are many academic cave dwellers lurking out there.
Is being an academic cave dweller bad? No, not at all as long as you realize that you will eventually adopt a skewed liberal perspective of the world thru all that brain-washing. Many lifer college students are okay with all of this and they often seem to realize what is going on. Why call the lifer-students academic cave dwellers? Well simple really you see they will not come out of the cave to see the real world and they have absolutely no desire too, they are very happy right where they are in every way.
If you will recall in Plato?s Cave Allegory people are shackled in a cave facing the wall watching shadows of flickering flame on the wall trying to perceive what is behind them making the those shadows you see? Well lifetime college students remain on the campus learning all there is to know, yet never go out in the real world to see it all in action and what really makes the world go around.

We must fight Osborne's cuts
Sunday Mirror, Jul 11, 2010 by Anonymous
pounds 100 Letter
GEORGE Osborne's plans to cut the budgets of Government departments by up to 40 per cent made chilling reading.
If the Chancellor slashes public services such as education to this extent the effect will be staggering.
This Tory butchery is almost beyond belief and it is about time people in this country raised their voices in UNITED ANGER against such savagery.
These cuts are bound to cause more hardship to the elderly, the sick, the disabled and the unemployed It is disgusting the most vulnerable in society are now being crucified by this bunch of multi- millionaires. But we must not lie down and take this without a fight. We should not be sheep, but roar back like lions. - D W Shattock, Bristol

More than 150,000 Americans die of stroke
More than 150,000 Americans die of stroke each year - a full one-third of all those who suffer stroke. Another 150,000 will be left with a severe disability that is permanent and affects their ability to enjoy their optimum life.
A stroke is an alteration in the brain, in which you are aware of that alteration and your diminished capabilities. As frightening as the varieties of cancer, stroke also comes in varieties with various accompanying results. An aneurysm is a spontaneous hemorrhage rupture due to a weakness in a part of the artery wall in the brain, and are very deadly, coming without warning and killing half of their victims.
A hemorrhage caused by the rupture of small blood vessels in the brain is most often related to the long-term debilitating effects of high blood pressure, and is found moreso in people over age 50.

Older workers often have decades of critical
Older workers often have decades of critical
knowledge and experience that they can pass on to their
younger co-workers, which benefits everyone concerned.
Easing into retirement can lessen the shock of suddenly
having no place to go in the morning, a situation that many
newly-retired workers have difficulty adjusting to. This is
especially a problem for workaholic types who've been
logging 50 or 60 hour work weeks for most of their adult
lives. And for people who have no hobbies, outside
interests, or children, the hours of the day can seem to
stretch on and on.
There are also financial considerations with retirement.
With people living longer than ever, and the ever-increasing
cost of living, it's becoming harder to retire with a
comfortable standard of living (especially if you want to
travel, upgrade your home, buy expensive furnishings, etc).
Which is where phased retirements come in. In one recent
survey, over 60 percent of workers between 50 and 70 years
old said that they'd like to work part-time before they
fully retire.

Every business can learn from the bald eagle
Every business can learn from the bald eagle
0 Comments | Press, The; Christchurch, New Zealand, Jun 5, 2010 | by GARTERS Reg
Well, we are back in New Zealand after a lovely six-week look around Canada and Alaska.
I sent a few thoughts back when we were on holiday and they appeared in this column a couple of weeks ago. I hope you found them interesting. I am still in reflection mode, so I thought I would share a few more thoughts and relate them to our organisations in New Zealand.
Any trip away has many highlights and in those wonderful countries you can't help being impressed with the uniqueness of the scenery, animal life and of course, the new people you meet.
One event in particular, however, stands out.
We were on a cruise ship heading up a fiord deep in Alaska and pushing through large chunks of ice that had fallen off a majestic glacier which we were heading to get a closer look at. Not far away on one of these small icebergs sat a bald eagle, the emblem of the United States. It looked mightily impressive, sitting there motionless, treating us with complete disinterest. People gathered round to get a better view of the bird. Superlatives flowed from the predominantly American passengers: "So awesome, huge, majestic, pretty etc etc." One lady stated the obvious: "So still, he could almost be dead."
With tongue in cheek my wife Bid, being a fan of Monty Python, broke the awe-inspired silence, with a not-too-quiet voice, suggesting that perhaps the bald eagle had been nailed there.
Now those familiar with Monty Python's Dead Parrot sketch will be cracking up, just as I did. However, judging by the body language of those around us, I got the impressions there was a universal ignorance of this work. I think if we put Bid alongside Andy Haden, their combined diplomacy would make World War III a reality.
Incident at the glacier aside, I must say I was extremely impressed with the majesty of these wonderful birds. The male and female eagle work as a team and do plenty of job sharing. They take turns at the nest sitting; one on, the other in some spot not far away, high above the ground looking for threats from predators and opportunities for food. Even apart they still communicate with each other.
I got to thinking about their method of operating and how it related to our organisations.
We can often get so engrossed in the day-to-day tasks of keeping eggs warm that we take no time out to look for the opportunities that will help us feed the chicks when they hatch or keep us sustained while we are keeping today's eggs warm

They may even call it
They may even call it ?writers block.?
It isn?t surprising ?writers block? stops so many talented people from fulfilling their potential when it comes to writing. If we have an INFINITE capacity for imagination, this means we have an unlimited number of choices when it comes to choosing what to write about. The task is daunting enough without realising you have unlimited choices.
One neat trick whatever you like writing about (and this is perfect for children?s writing and getting children to write) is to write about you. What makes you happy, sad, laugh, angry and frustrated. Recreate your character and incorporate it into the next person or character you make up.
If you enjoy eating mangos, make sure that the lemming in your next story loves eating mangos too. If you have a passion for drawing cartoons, turn your lemming into a cartoonist who sits at the edge of the cliff each lemming season and munches on mangos while watching, and sketching, his mates jump over the edge.
If you like snorkelling, then each lemming that jumps could be wearing a snorkel and mask.
